ACMSC NEWS -- Mar./April 2006

The start of the 2006 ACMSC season is almost here, and we're anticipating another fantastic year.  This season will again feature 8 One Meter Sport Club Championship Series Races, another Seawind regional regatta and much more.

NEW MEMBERS/BOATS...

This winter we have been joined by two new members.  Both have recently purchased or ordered Seawind kits, and we hope to see them on the water throughout the season.

Terry Lewis -- Seawind #?? Blewbyu

Terry is a big boat sailor from Wichita that sails with the Walnut Valley Sailing Association over at El Dorado.  He had his boat out for the first time on February 25, and looks forward to joining us this season.

Don Boyko -- Seawind #103

Don is a CR-914 sailor and RC powerboat racer from Olathe, KS.  Don and I met each other at a race with the Mid-Missouri Model Sailing Club in Columbia, MO in July, and he recently added a Seawind to his fleet of RC yachts.  Don is planning on joining us for the Ice Breaker later this month and for the Region 4 regatta in June.

Scott Loesch -- Seawind #46

Scott has usually been seen sailing his familiar white #23 Cup Class A3 boat, but recently he purchased Seawind #46 (formerly owned by Sebastian Echenique and Ian Sammis) and plans to do some racing with it this season.

ICE BREAKER REGATTA SET FOR MARCH 25!!!

The second annual ACMSC Ice Breaker regatta will get the season underway.  As with last season, this will not be a points-earning event (The first points race will be in April), but it's a great opportunity for everyone to blow off the winter dust and cobwebs.  This regatta is open to any boat--not just One Meter Sport Class boats.  Not only can we expect the usual 'cast of characters' at this event, but a Texas Seawind skipper (he races with the Les Lacs MYC in the Dallas area) named Bob Piper will be making the trip up for this race, making things even more interesting!  Racing will begin as usual at 11:00am and conclude at 2:30pm, and we hope to see everyone at the pond that day.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN FOR THE 2006 REGION 4 SW REGATTA!

As of March 1, registration has officially opened for the Seawind Region 4 Regatta.  Last season's race was an outstanding event, drawing 14 boats from three states.  This season, a strong 'Texas presence' is again expected, with Bob Harmon, Devry Garrett and Seawind newcomer Bob Piper all expressing interest in entering the race.  In addition, Don Boyko (from Olathe, KS)--one of the newest ACMSC members has made a verbal committment to attend.  Last season we had 11 boats from our local fleet in competition, and we sincerely hope that we'll increase that number this season.  Get those entries in early and save $10 ($28 entry fee if received by April 30)

3/1 -- 4/30 -- Early/discount registration period ($28)

4/30 -- 5/19 -- Late registration ($38)

See the ACMSC web site (www.acmsc.org) for further details!

REGION 5 VICTORIA REGATTA TO BE HELD MAY 5-7 IN OKC

Our friends South of the border in Yukon, Oklahoma (suburb of Oklahoma City) are going to be hosting the Region 5 Championship Regatta for VIctorias the first weekend in May.  Registration opens on March 25, and will be limited to the first 36 entrants, so if you're interested in entering what should be a fun event, don't procrastinate!  See the Sooner State Model Yacht Club's website (www.ssmyc.org) for further details.

MORE VICTORIA (32-SPORT) CLASS RACES TO BE HELD...

As discussed earlier in the season, there is a desire amongst many of our members to have some separate races this season for 32-Sport (Victoria) class boats.  Though the current 1/2 year calendar doesn't show any, we believe that later in the summer (in the second half of the season) and in the fall we will be able to squeeze some in (including the 2nd annual Turkey Regatta for Vics the Saturday before Thanksgiving.)  So, stay tuned!

POSSIBLE CLUB PICNIC/FUN SAIL AT EL DORADO THIS YEAR

I recently have been in contact with officials from the Walnut Valley Sailing Association, which is the full scale yacht club over at El Dorado Lake.  We're talking about a possible event to be held there sometime this summer in the same way that last year's club picnic/fun sail at Cheney went.  Their Commodore is going to speak with the Board of Governors at their monthly meeting in March.  I'll keep you posted on what I find out.

HELP MAKE 2006 OUR BEST SEASON EVER!

Last season saw the breaking of several important records--including an all time high of average boats per event (10.5) and boats at a regular Club Championship Series Race (13).  We have the fleet numbers now to break both of those records, and the key to that is YOU!  Come on out to the pond this season for the fun and racing.

See you on March 25!
